Frog Pond Fish to Eat Mozzie Wrigglers

Hi,

Even though the forum isn't used very much I suggest that we have * new * for Biodiversity. *, for now, here's some info on * native fish for frog ponds * * * to the pest Mosquito Fish (Gambusia sp.), * known * Plague Minnows.

The fish that * recommended below do not eat frog spawn but do eat Mozzie Wrigglers. Gold Fish eat everything, including Frog Spawn, so *'t * good idea.

From the NSW Frog &*; Tadpole Study Group - By far the most suitable fish local to the Mid North Coast NSW is the Soft-spined Rainbowfish, Rhadinocentrus ornatus. The next choice would be the Pacific Blue-eye (Pseudomugil signifer * * that the Crimson-spotted Rainbowfish, Melanotaenia duboulayii. With the latter two, unless you have * large pond with plenty of water plant cover, I suggest you only put * few males in so that you don't get too many of them.
If you catch your own, take care you don't have Gambusia (Plague Minnows) in the by-catch. The young ones * hard to tell * if they don't hold still long enough.
